acrylic paint on a found toy hockey goalie mask. the mask depicts the kawaii eye pattern and painted text that reads "Fashion Ranger, Kawaii Blue" across the base.

for a long time this goalie mask toy was sat on our front windowsill. my roommates at the time and I weren't sure where it came from, but we also didn't want to move it, so it just stayed there for months. eventually our neighbor said they found it, and knowing my roommates like hockey they she thought they might like it. they didn't care for the team, and insisted that i should 'draw something on it', and eventually I gave in. after ripping off the mesh mouth guard and sanding it down, i painted it a nice calming blue and dotted it with the kawaii eyes i love so much. this is one of the few instances where I also used a dry brush to give a rough shine effect to the lens of the mask.

the Power Rangers are iconic in their own way that transcends the show itself, as so much media that it was based on and that was based on it dotted television at the time (Big Bad Beetle Borgs, Kamen Rider, Tattooed Teenage Alien Fighters from Beverly Hills, etc.) the image of a suited up teenager with harsh edges and a slick looking jumpsuit was so easily repeatable and often used that it became a genre of it's own.
